Florecilla/Little Blossom-Animal Spirits Series

“Florecilla/Little Blossom” is a jaguar from the Animal Spirits Series Jaguars are the largest wildcat of the Americas. Traditionally they traveled as far north as southern Arizona. In the twentieth century their populations in the US were almost eliminated by hunters and aggressive wildlife management policies. In recent years they’ve reappeared in the remote mountains of southern Arizona near the border with Mexico. This sculpture is dedicated to the jaguars of those borderlands.
It’s carved from found aspen wood, painted with layers of iridescent acrylics then finished with wax. The sculpture is removed from the steel stand for shipping.
