Nicho-Hand and Flower

  • Nicho-Hand and Flower

The Nicho Series is inspired by objects of prayer and gratitude, ex votos and milagros from Mexico and Latin America. Traditionally Milagros were used as offerings to request help or give thanks for assistance with any number of circumstances, from mending bones to finding lost pets. Frequently they are used in requests for healing. The word "milagro" is Spanish for "miracle". The tin boxes are made in Mexico. Inside this nicho is a hand carved from fallen aspen wood. The hand holds a carved hand holding a flower with carved leaves sprouting. The piece is delicately painted with acrylic. On the top of the frame there are tiny hand painted stars in a night sky. The glass door to the box can be opened if desired.
