Raven Owl Moon

The Moonface Series is inspired by the serene face that I see shining on the surface of our luminous full moon. From ancient times people have understood the cycles of the moon and how they affect life on earth, the ocean's tides, our physical bodies. I imagine the earth inhales and exhales in tandem with the lunar cycles.

This piece is carved from found aspen. The head has a pattern of hammered nails hammered in around the eyes. On the top of the head is an owl with a branch crown of carved leaves and flower. Atop the branch sits a tiny raven. There are three twigs surrounding the Owl. The twigs pieces are removed for shipping. The sculpture is delicately painted with iridescent acrylic and finished with wax. There's a hook on the back to hang it on the wall.
