This artwork is part of a series called "Migration". It honors the journeys made by men women, families and children as they search for new homes. Whether fleeing or exploring, when migrating to new lands people bring their customs, foods, and beliefs with them. They join their traditions with those of the inhabitants of their new land. That combination creates a rich cultural tapestry.
"Safe Passage" is carved from fallen aspen collected in the mountains of the southwestern United States. The figure's hands are made of cast bronze. The piece is painted with acrylic and metal leaf and finished with wax. It's mounted on a steel stand. the sculpture is removed from the stand for shipping. Ships after Nov. 11.
