“Sonoran Antelope” is inspired by the Pronghorn Antelope that dwell in the Arizona/ Mexico Borderlands. Each time I see antelope in southern Arizona I’m transported to a time when they roamed the area by the thousands. Drought, fences and climate change have reduced their numbers to near extinction. The border wall is threatening the survival of this already endangered species.
When removed from its stand it fits in the palm of a hand. It’s carved from found aspen wood, painted with layers of iridescent acrylics then finished with wax. The sculpture is removed from the steel stand for shipping.
