This is a new piece called Chrysalis. I made it thinking of the winter solstice, the shortening days, the last full moon of the year and the dreams of renewal in the new year to come.
Chrysalis is carved from found aspen branches collected in the mountains. The wings are made from antique ceiling tin. The delicate leaf pattern on the body is painted with acrylic. The angel is crowned with twig antlers holding carved leaves, and flowers. Dangling from the hands is a vial of freshwater pearls, an antique key., a found shell and a found metal leaf. The lower half of the figure has layers of rusted vintage ceiling tin nailed to the surface and a mesquite twig attached at the bottom. The piece is coated with wax to protect it. There is a hook on the back for hanging. It is signed on the back.
