This artwork is part of a series called "Migration". It honors the journeys made by men women, families and children as they search for new homes. Whether fleeing or exploring, when migrating to new lands people bring their customs, foods, and beliefs with them. They join their traditions with those of the inhabitants in their new land. That combination creates a rich cultural tapestry.
"Following the Dog Star" speaks of Sirius the brightest star in the night sky. Through out history this star has been known to cultures around the globe. In some places its appearance marked the beginning of a season or a crop cycle, in others it assisted travelers in navigating the sea.
