The Nicho Series is inspired by objects of prayer and gratitute, ex votos and milagros from Mexico and Latin America. Traditionally Milagros were used as offerings to request help or give thanks for assistance with any number of circumstances, from mending bones to finding lost pets. Frequently they are used in requests for healing. The word "milagro" is Spanish for "miracle". The tin boxes are made in Mexico. Inside this nicho is a wing carved from fallen aspen wood. The wing is painted with metal leaf. The background is delicately painted with acrylic. The glass door to the box can be opened if desired.
